If a particular page on a site does not load for some reason or in case a link is not functioning, the site visitor shall see an error page with some generic message. The page shall have nothing in common with the rest of the website, that could make the visitor leave the site. A solution in cases like this is a feature offered by some website hosting providers - the option to set up your own personalized error pages that shall have the exact same design as your Internet site and which can contain any images or text you want dependent upon the specific error. There are four standard errors which may take place and they involve the following so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your world-wide web browser sends a bad request to the hosting server and it cannot be processed; 401, in case you are supposed to log in to see a page, but you haven't done this yet; 403, if you do not have a permission to view a specific page; and 404, when a link which you have clicked leads to a file that doesn't exist. In all of these scenarios, site visitors will be able to see your customized content instead of a generic error page.
Custom Error Pages in Hosting
If you get a hosting service
from us, you shall be able to set custom error pages for your sites fast and easy, since this feature is a part of all our solutions. After you have created the files and uploaded them to your website hosting account, you should check out the Hosted Domains section of your Hepsia Control Panel and click on the Edit button for the particular domain or subdomain. In the pop-up which will show up, you shall see drop-down options menus for all four kinds of errors and for each of them you can select an Apache default page, a generic page from our system or a customized page. In case you select the 3rd option, you should only input the URL to the file that you have uploaded and save the change. A different way to set customized error pages is to create an .htaccess file in the domain or subdomain folder and to include a few lines of code in it. If you don't have prior experience or if you are simply unsure how to do this, you may just copy and paste the code from our Knowledge Base article on that subject.
Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting
Adding your pages for any of the 4 error types to any website hosted in a semi-dedicated server
account with us will be really basic and will not take more than a few clicks. After you upload the files in your account, you can navigate to the Hosted Domains section of your Hepsia Control Panel and edit any of the domains and subdomains listed there through an intuitive interface with drop-down menus. You may select what page should appear for every error type. Your choices are a default Apache server page or a page from our system, and custom pages. If you choose the last option, you will need to type the link to every page in your account, then save the change. The link or the type of page that will appear when a user encounters an error can be modified at any time. In case you are more experienced, you could use an .htaccess file in order to set custom made error pages too, as opposed to using our integrated generator software instrument, and if you choose this option, the file must be located inside the root directory of a particular domain or subdomain.
