An access log is a text file that contains a thorough list of all of the files accessed by your Internet site visitors. All of the files which were requested in one way or another shall be included, so if you have a PHP script program and a website visitor opens just the home page, for instance, you may find a lot of files in the log. The reason is that there are resources on the home page that are embedded - parts of other pages, images, and so on. All of these files shall be listed inside the access log, allowing you to get a complete picture of the way your Internet site performs. The information is in plain text format, so the logs are often referred to as "raw data" too. An access log shows the name of each requested file, the path to it, the date it was accessed, in addition to the user’s IP address, web browser and Operating System. More info, like the referrer site, is oftentimes supplied as well. A log file may be processed by various desktop apps for statistical purposes as an addition to the web stats supplied by your hosting server.

Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel has a section focused on various logs and the access logs are one of them. As soon as you sign in to your hosting
account and go to this section, you shall find a list of all the domains
and subdomains which you have. All it takes to allow the generation of access logs is to press a button that will be available next to every domain/subdomain. If the option is active, you shall see a download link and also the file size so far, so you shall be able to save the file to your laptop or computer and examine it or process it with some app. Enabling or disabling the logs becomes effective instantaneously, so if you don't require one, you could stop it with just a mouse click from the very same section of the CP. You'll still be able to access the already generated content by simply clicking on the Download link.

If you have a semi-dedicated server
account with our company, it shall not take more than a couple of mouse clicks to enable the generation of access logs by our system if you require them. The feature may be enabled through the Hepsia hosting Control Panel and this may be done individually for each and every domain or subdomain you have inside your account. Once you log in and look at the Access/Error Logs section of the Control Panel, you will find a list of all the hostnames with an On/Off button next to each one. One click will trigger the log generation and a second one will deactivate it, so you can control this function with great ease. A Download link within the same section will permit you to save the gathered content as a text file, which you can then use on your PC. Even if the logs are deactivated, you shall still be able to download the data that has been previously generated.
